- * Insect flexible cuticle proteins signature *
- **********************************************
-
- Insect cuticle is composed of proteins and chitin. The cuticular proteins seem
- to be specific to the type of cuticle (flexible or stiff) that occur at stages
- of the insect development. The proteins found in the flexible cuticle of larva
- and pupa of different insects share a conserved C-terminal section [1]; such a
- region is also found in the soft endocuticle of adults insects [2]. We have
- derived a signature pattern from the central part of that conserved region.
-
- -Consensus pattern: G-x(6)-Y-x-A-[DN]-x(0,1)-E-x-G-[FY]-x-P-x-[SAG]-x(3)-P
- -Sequences known to belong to this class detected by the pattern: ALL, except
- for Drosophila pupal cuticle protein Edg-84.
- -Other sequence(s) detected in SWISS-PROT: NONE.
- -Last update: December 1992 / Text revised.
